STYLE GURU BIO: Alyson Munson

Hi everyone, I’m Alyson. I’m super excited to be starting my semester here at CollegeFashionista! I’m a sophomore at Penn State Behrend studying communications with certificates in advertising, public relations, and social media. A dream job for me would be working for a business and managing their social media accounts, but I really love advertising and public relations as well! I hope to one day move to a bigger city and work somewhere that I really love, I’m working on finding opportunities to grow and see everything that I can do with my major.

Growing up in Erie, PA means I’m very used to the massive amounts of snow we get every winter, and that I totally know how to style outfits accordingly. Lately, getting snow has turned into very late snowfall and making winter far into the months considered spring (seriously, we had snow in May last year!). So having winter clothing is a must here. Going to school where I grew up means that there aren’t really any changes in weather in the 20 miles from my house to my college campus, so when the semester starts I will still be in the cold rather than going to a campus far away, where it could be warm. I own tons of jackets and coats, and I always layer my outfits to be as warm as I possibly can. Black boots are a staple in my closet because they match everything and are so easy to throw on and trudge through the snow. In this post I’m wearing my favorite leather jacket over a gray turtleneck. I accented the outfit with black booties and a black watch to tie everything together.

I consider my style to be very laid back. I wear a lot of neutrals and I try to wear different accessories to complement the outfit without making it seem like too much. I really enjoy makeup and always have fun accenting my outfits with my choice of lipstick or eyeshadow for something extra. I usually don’t label my style; I just wear what I like and don’t think too much on it. My favorite color to wear is black (but isn’t that everyone’s?), But I do like to keep it different by adding accessories so that my outfit isn’t too plain and simple.

I think that personal style is really important because when you like what you’re wearing you feel good about yourself, and when you feel good about yourself, you have a better time doing whatever it is that you’re doing. I hope to have a great semester and I’m so excited for what’s to come!
