STYLE GURU BIO: Alainia Conrad

Hello, everyone! My name is Alainia Conrad and this is my first semester as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru, and my last semester as an undergraduate college student! After four years of studying advertising and fashion merchandising, I will be graduating from West Virginia University in May. In addition to being a Style Guru, I also write a weekly fashion column for the university’s student newspaper and am a DJ and hip-hop director for the campus radio station.

My style is difficult to define and constantly changing, taking inspiration from photography, movies, fashion shows, music videos, vintage trends—nearly anything visual that makes me see fashion in a different way. I’m always thinking of ways to interpret a look as my own using pieces I already have in my wardrobe.

Some features that tie most of my looks together are pattern and fabric mixing, dark colors and frugality—in both time and money. I like simple, comfortable outfits consisting of unique pieces that pop on their own without the need for excessive accessories.

I thought this look would perfectly represent my everyday style—I chose a black lace bralette layered over a mesh bodysuit and paired with a plaid skirt from a thrift store. For accessories, I put on a pair of black fuzzy earrings and my favorite pair of lace-up booties. The edginess of the bralette and bodysuit pairing balances perfectly with the classic simplicity of the skirt.

Thanks for reading—stay tuned for more of my style and fashion inspirations from around campus!
