STYLE GURU BIO: Pamela Barthelemy

Everyone has a happy place; maybe it’s the beach, his or her bed or Michael’s Craft Store. Mine is my closet. In the words of Sheldon Cooper, it is “my spot.” My closet isn’t a walk-in but when I look into it, I see endless outfit possibilities. I can spend endless hours putting looks together down to the smallest detail. The energy that goes into assembling looks is worth it once I see the finished products. The process takes over and for those couple of hours I don’t have room in my brain to worry about anything else. My clothes have become my sanctuary. They are my safe place and where I feel the most like myself.

My style can vary by day. I like to take inspiration from everything because even the ugliest Christmas sweaters have some potential. Some days I feel like draping myself in pink, other days I feel sporty . On my best day I’m able to do both. Combining elements of opposite styles can make for a surprisingly good statement. My adidas slides go well with a button-down and blazer, and a baseball cap and Nike’s complement a satin slip dress nicely. I enjoy following trends but I focus on personalizing every look. Whether it’s taking out the hem of my jeans or making a choker it’s not enough for me to just wear the clothes, but I really want to get across to others who I am.

With my look today I’m wearing two of my recent DIY projects. I made this plaid choker myself from a pair of old shorts. Chokers are my current accessory obsession which is why I’m wearing three, one is never enough. Also I altered the bottoms of these overalls to create an overall dress to rework something I’ve had in my closet for a while.

I just completed my second year at the University of South Florida and this is the start of my third semester with CollegeFashionista. Each semester is more and more rewarding. From advice from industry insider, brand collaboration and its podcast, CollegeFashionista offers tools to this community of Fashionistas/os to help us further our careers and feed out fashion obsessions. It’s going to be another RAD semester!
