STYLE GURU BIO: Mallory Champlin

Hello there! The name is Mallory Champlin and I am a sophomore at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I study costume design and fashion, so becoming a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista is a very exciting step for me. I grew up in Panama City Beach, Florida. Growing up on the beach has definitely molded me as a laid back, sun-loving person. I spend many days at the beach with friends (when I am not rushing around at school in order to finish a project, that is). I am a gigantic animal lover and vegetarian, and yoga is basically my best friend. I work as a freelance makeup artist, and makeup is pretty much the love of my life, along with fashion, of course.

My love for costumes came up pretty naturally. I love studying people and their styles. Nothing is more inspiring to me than someone on the street, in a restaurant or in class that is being completely themselves. I love seeing people wearing something that they love, and you can just sense when they feel powerful and confident in their clothing. It isn’t uncommon for me to pull out my sketchbook and draw people like this down for reference later.

Ever since I was little, my mother would find me in her bathroom rubbing her lipstick on my face. Makeup was my first love, and I don’t believe that will ever change! I never leave the house without my makeup done. It is a way that I express myself, just as much as my outfit does. Doing freelance work, I am never more happy than when someone gets so excited and tells me that I made them look beautiful!

I’ll always being wearing some sort of bold lipstick, neutral colors and a pair of cute shoes and sunglasses. These are my basic must-haves on the daily. My style ranges mostly from streetwear to chic—you’ll hardly ever see me in a gown. I’m ecstatic to begin my journey as Style Guru for CollegeFashionista!
