STYLE GURU STYLE: Grunge Style

My entire life I have been intrigued by the big cities. I adore the hovering skyscrapers, the people and the best restaurants that you discover off the beaten path. What I love the most about the city is the eclectic style you see around every corner. Growing up in the ’90’s I have always been inspired by grunge and New York City street styles. This style defines my personality in terms of its quest to be contemporary and in the now but also by its drive to be unexpected or differ from the usual. At first glance, street style can look very eccentric and bold. This could be because of all the layering, but there are so many ways to interpret the style by taking all or some of it into your daily wardrobe.

Drawing from Diesel Black Gold’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I combined a pair of moto leggings and a traditional camel blazer to achieve that masculine-feminine vibe that designer Andreas Melbostad was going for. By mixing a more sophisticated jacket with the leggings, I was able to complete his iconic ’90s-inspired grunge style. I mainly stuck with shades-of-black palette much like he did in this particular collection. I also drew inspiration from J.Crew’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection by incorporating a camel colored blazer to add a slight amount of their classic/preppy style to the outfit.

Due to personal preference and the current winter season, I chose to stick with a neutral color palette. This doesn’t mean you can’t add a pop of color somewhere throughout your outfit. The textured pattern on my leggings differentiates these leggings from your ordinary black legging. I also believe that different textures contribute to defining a street style outfit. I also chose to add a pair of my go-to, everyday black booties that helped put the outfit together without looking like I tried too hard.

Get My Look: 1. Any colored blazer jacket. 2. A pair of moto leggings. 3. A pair of chunky black booties.
