BEAUTY BAR: Brown Lips Are Back

The brown lip is back with a vengeance. Trends from the ‘90s are popping back into the fashion world daily, and I’m hoping this one is here to stay. ‘90s stars like Uma Thurman and Drew Barrymore rocked dark brown lips, while Jennifer Aniston and Whitney Houston went for more natural light brown lips.

Today, makeup companies are creating browns in every shade imaginable, complete with matte finishes to appeal to the current trend. Brands such as LimeCrime and Anastasia Beverly Hills are gaining popularity for their matte liquid lipsticks. Kylie Jenner’s Lip Kit even features a True Brown matte liquid lipstick.

This Fashionista’s dark brown matte lip adds a vampy edge to her casual altheisure-inspired ensemble. Altheisure has been a trend since Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner have opted for Lululemon leggings and Adidas, instead of denim and boots. This Fashionista has made it her own, with high-waisted leggings, white Nike Air Force Ones, a cropped white turtleneck and a black bomber jacket. Her dramatic winged eyeliner, long lashes, and dark lip take this daytime look into an effortlessly cool night out outfit.

For a more sophisticated look, simply pair a reddish-brown matte lip with a chiffon blouse and high waisted black jeans. For an intense, dramatic look, opt for a smoky eye and a mauve matte lip with a bodycon two-piece top and skirt.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: To complete this look, you will need a brown lipstick, matte or glossy. Choose one that complements your skin tone, but feel free to play with darker or lighter shades. Keep the rest of your makeup minimal and make sure to contour, contour, contour.
