STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Layer It On Me

As if hauling your perpetually exhausted body out of bed in the morning and trudging zombie-like to your 9:00 a.m. class isn’t hard enough, throw in the awkward in-between-seasons weather. If that sentence alone puts you in “can’t even” mode, keep reading. Yeah, yeah, college classes are a lot harder than in high school and having to feed and water yourself is pretty strenuous, but the silent (read: uncomfortable) killer is transition weather…the kind you still have to hike to class in.

Sure, it’s a given that the first month of school is going to be a sweaty one, so take advantage of athletic wear AND fool people into thinking you can run a mile without an inhaler! Come mid-September, everyone and their fashionable mother is sick of wearing running shorts and ready to transition to running leggings (again, fooling people into thinking we’re athletic), and welcome sweater weather with open arms.

Fortunately for you northern Fashionistas/os, the glittering opportunity to roll out of bed and throw on your well-loved leggings and grandpa sweater arrived weeks ago. Unfortunately for us down south, our hopes are high every morning as we throw on a sweatshirt, only to be reduced to a puddle of sweat as temperatures rise by a balmy 20 degrees in mere hours. The key to dressing for weather that is not quite summery but not yet crisp autumn? Layers. I mean, not all over your body, but enough that when the temps start rising you can peel off that V-neck to Chris Brown’s Strip” to reveal an equally cozy tank underneath. You reap the benefits of looking oh-so casual chic and don’t have to suffer through 85 degrees in a waffle knit all day.

Not sure where to begin? Take a peek at this Fashionista as she rocks a slouchy boyfriend T-shirt over a tank for versatility. Add in a comfy pair of distressed jeans as an ode to fall, and grab your favorite anorak or cargo jacket for the cooler classrooms or times of the day. Slip into a casual Chelsea boot or sneakers, throw your laptop in your tote and hit the books.

What’s your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Layers are your friend! Comfort is key, but never sacrifice style for comfort when you can have both!”
