5 Ways to Decorate Your Room for Fall

As of September 21, it is officially autumn! If you can’t celebrate with chunky sweaters and boots yet because of the weather, you can celebrate by starting to decorate your room for fall. It’s all about making the space you’re in feel like fall, which is something that my mom was amazing at back home. But, being at school it’s hard to get the same experience, especially when you don’t have years of decorations saved up. So, I wanted to share how to decorate a dorm room/apartment without breaking the bank.

candles and scented decorations

There are certain scents that just smell like fall. You know what I’m talking about. Cinnamon, apple, and pumpkin spice are all smells that bring back memories of this season.

Lighting a candle that smells like one of those scents immediately puts me in the fall mood. If your dorm won’t let you have candles, you can always get a scented plug-in that will give the same effect but with no flame!

Fall means Halloween, and that means pumpkins. But, fall also means Thanksgiving. So, by decorating your apartment with pumpkin décor that doesn’t have jack-o-lantern faces, they can last you the whole season. This way nothing looks out of place as soon as it hits November 1. It’s also great to get artificial pumpkins so you can reuse them next year!

change your laptop background

Year-round I usually like to keep my background a cute graphic or a photo I like. But, around the fall and winter months, I love to change my background to something that is a little more festive. Try switching your background to something either Halloween-related or just autumnal. This may not seem like a decoration, but it’s a really simple change that will get you in the fall spirit every time you open your laptop. Plus it’s free!

fairy lights

Fairy lights are a must all year, honestly. Adding a string of lights to your wall or above a window can immediately elevate a space from average to adorable and cozy. Not only are adding lights good for making your room cozy in the fall, but they will also be cozy in the winter too. It’s a bang for your buck and can step up your game for under $20.

fake flowers/ wreaths

Real flowers are beautiful, but fake flowers are so much easier to care for. A wreath or fake bouquet of flowers in autumn shades (think red, orange, and dark purple) can make a kitchen or table look like you just pulled it out of Pinterest or Instagram.
