5 Reasons You Should Ditch School and Do The Disney College Program

We all know that time when you’re in school, hating life, homework, your job, etc., and you just want a change of pace. One day, I sat on my kitchen counter scrolling through every possible internship I could find, and I came across an interesting one: The Disney College Program. I never thought it was possible to pick up your stuff, take a semester off, move to Florida, and go work in “The Happiest Place on Earth,” but it was possible. I’m going to give you a few reasons why you should apply to the DCP if you love making magic.

1—You get to experience something new. Being in college is an experience, but moving to Florida or California to work for Disney is completely different. Every day you get to work at a job that’s not plain and boring like your job at home. You get to meet people from all around the world, including guests and other cast members. You can be one of the reasons that a family has a great vacation. In housing, you experience the “real world.” You don’t have a cafeteria, or a dining plan, you sometimes don’t even have a car and have to use the Disney-provided bus system. This program will undoubtably help you grow.

2—It’s a résumé builder. According to the Orlando Sentinel, 50,000 students from around the world apply to the program, and only 12,000 get in. Disney provides training at Disney University, classes in your housing complexes, networking events, and so much more. Disney is one of the top companies in the world. When employers look at that résumé and see that Disney is listed as an employer, it will catch their eye.

3—Disney perks. Did I mention this internship gets even better because of the perks? One of the best perks is park admission. As a cast member, you get free admission to every park! I know, amazing. You get free parking, so you can save those $20 they charge when you arrive. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to do backstage tours of some of your favorite rides. You get discounts, and you can get earn free tickets for your family.

4—You make friends for life. Once you’ve accepted your program, you can look for roommates or go blind. I met my roommates on Facebook, and they were from all over the country. We all got along so well, and they instantly became my best friends. As for work, the people I worked with became like a family to me. The older people I got to work with made sure I always had food and that everything was going good, which was so sweet. You can even make friends out of work or your apartment. In my program, I met my best friend, who was an International student from Guatemala.

5—It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. As I mentioned before, 50,000 people from around the world apply to this internship. I had roommates that applied dozens of times until they finally got in. You can only do the program when you’re in college or when you’re fresh out of college. If you have the opportunity to work at Disney, I recommend you take it. Like Walt Disney once said, “If you can dream it, you can do it.”
