5 Photo Ops No Instagram Enthusiast Can Miss in Charleston

Having lived in Virginia my whole life, I’ve been lucky enough to take road-trips all over the entire East Coast from Maine to Florida. One of my favorite road trips I took was this past spring when my family and I embarked on a seven-hour drive to the charming city of Charleston, South Carolina. Being the planner that I am, I did my fair share of research before we left to make sure we hit all of the hot spots. One of my main focuses was finding the city’s most Instagram-worthy photo ops. Here, I’ll show you five of my favorite photos from my trip and what to pack to get your best shot at each one.

1—Rainbow Row. If you’ve even slightly familiar with Charleston, you’ve probably heard of this famous stretch of colorful row houses just a block from Waterfront Park and the coast. My Instagram research was flooded with girls in cute outfits standing in front of different hues of pink, blue, and yellow walls on Rainbow Row. Pack a printed romper so that you stand out and strike a pose against the vibrant walls.

2—The Unitarian Church Cemetery. This hidden gem is tucked off of one of the main streets in downtown Charleston. The cemetery is full of beautiful trees, flowers, and history. I was lucky enough to accidentally stumble into this area at sunset and I couldn’t resist a photo with the warm glow of evening light peaking through the trees.

3—A Waterfront Restaurant. I only got to try four day’s worth of restaurants, so I encourage you to Yelp it up and find a cute spot on the water that sounds good to you. We went to Tavern & Table in Mount Pleasant. Channel your inner southern belle in some reflective sunnies, order a mint julep, and snap a pic while you sip.

4—King Street. My fellow Fashionistas, you cannot miss shopping the cute boutiques along King Street. They offered the best selection of pieces that were both on-trend and affordable. Wear some comfortable wedges and make a day of the area by grabbing lunch before you shop and then resting your legs afterward at Marion Square.

5—Sullivan’s Island. What’s a trip to a coastal city without hitting the beach? Show off your favorite one-piece on the beaches of Sullivan’s Island, an adorable little beach town right outside the city. Don’t forget a cute towel and some SPF!

Of course, there are far more than five places worth seeing in Charleston, such as the Pineapple Fountain, Battery Park, Folly Beach, and probably a million restaurants, but these are a solid start to Instagramming your way through one of the South’s most beautiful historic cities.
