“School’s out for summer! School’s out forever! School’s been blown to pieces: no more pencils, no more books and no more teacher’s dirty looks.” Crooning one of the most well known songs about summer break, Alice Cooper sums up how everyone feels as the school year comes to a close. Finished with finals and now faced with the difficult feat of saying goodbye to New Orleans, it’s bound to be a long summer away from this magical city. However, summer has always been a time of relaxation and rejuvenation. Overstressed and overtired after finals, we pack up our things and start our journey’s home: hoping that those bags under our eyes will soon disappear.
Summer is always a time of carefree styling. Which explains why bohemian styles have always been a popular summer trend. Channeling Donna Karan’s “Urban Boho” looks she displayed down the runway in the spring and Karl Lagerfeld’s more Middle Eastern inspired bohemian prints for the Chanel Resort collection, it’s evident bohemian looks are here to stay.
This Fashionista gives the bohemian look a try with her printed red and orange maxi skirt, simple tank and Arabian-inspired sandals. Her look is relaxed and perfectly eclectic. Her printed maxi skirt go hand in hand with looks we saw on Chanel’s runway, but her simple tank tone down the skirt giving it less of a costume-y feel a more of a couture feel. Her snake-like sandals are also notable. Playing with texture and pattern this Fashionista proves that even in the heat of summer, you can make haute couture looks accessible and easy to wear.
Using her maxi skirt as the focal point of her look, the rest follows suit out of simplicity. She lets her main piece take all the attention, and rightly so. While this look isn’t something we’d see down a runway, our Fashionista lets the fashion world inspire her look in a simplistic way.
Boho looks in check, we’ve finished our finals and it’s now time for summer. Begrudgingly we bid adieu to Tulane and New Orleans. For seniors this goodbye is met with a struggle to leave. But for the rest of us, our departure is bittersweet—well knowing we’ll be back soon enough. Have a fantastic summer Tulaninas, I’ll see you next fall!
One Simple Change: Heading to a summer concert? Switch out the black tank for a white one and add a Giving Keys necklace and Lily and Laura beaded bracelets to perpetuate the bohemian looks with accessories. Both accessory brands are philanthropic so be sure to check out their purpose!
