WHAT TO WEAR: Formal

We often immediately associate the fashion world with women and women’s attire. We are quick to neglect men’s fashion, although many men often lead the fashion industry. For example, Chanel is one of the most critically acclaimed and timeless brands of all time. When Coco Chanel passed away, the Chanel brand struggled until Karl Lagerfeld took over as head designer. Under his instructions, the Chanel brand was returned to its former elite status. This is just one example of men leading the fashion industry and serving as the creative minds behind iconic fashion moments. The global menswear market is growing increasingly and men are once again rivaling women in splendor.

Men have many dress options. As shows have come to a close throughout major fashion cities in the world, men are preparing for the upcoming autumn season. Certain trends seemed to continue from designer to designer. For example, the color gray appeared numerous times in a variety of designer’s lines, from Dolce&Gabanna to Calvin Klein Collection. Different shades of green were also prevalent, as well as wool coats and layering knits. Whatever your style is, there’s a perfect look out there for you.

Lately, I’ve been receiving requests from my male friends to make a post about men’s style. Guys often have nice clothing, but struggle to find the right occasion to wear these items.  Luckily, I bumped into this Fashionisto on his way to formal, and he sure did dress the part! He wears a fitted black suit with a fun bow tie. It’s important to note that his blacks match, meaning that his coat and pants are of the same shade of black. When buying separates, it’s important to make sure that the shades match exactly, instead of just opting for whatever looks close enough. Mismatched suits can often be distracting, so double check before you purchase! Also, note that his suit is proportional to his body and fitted nicely. He also wears a pair of formal dress shoes that show no signs of wear and tear. Lastly, he rocks a stylish watch and a pair of polka-dot socks. This look is sharp and sleek, and most importantly, perfect for formal!

One Simple Change: For an occasion like formal, a bow tie is appropriate. However, if you were dressing for an interview opt for a necktie instead. This small change is a lot more well-suited and professional.
