This was a busy week in the world of fashion and pop culture. Want to know what everyone will be talking about over their egg white omelets? From Mindy Kaling’s spray tan tales to the latest London Fashion Week shows, here is your weekly TAKE FIVE.
1. Lupita Nyong’o has serious hula hoop skills. Sure she may have an Oscar, serious style and a rumored relationship with Jared Leto, but Lupita Nyong’o just unleashed one of her other talents on the world. The October Vogue cover girl shows off her unbelievable ability to walk, hula hoop and hold serious/not-so-serious conversation in the latest installment of Vogue.com’s “73 Questions.” The video leaves us wondering—what can’t Lupita do?
2. Emmy winner Taylor Swift? Speaking of females on the path to world domination, Taylor Swift can now add “Emmy” to her list of 342,834,014 accolades. After we saw her post a stream of Instagrams with her new hardware, we had to Google—because last time I checked, Taylor Swift is not a cast member of Modern Family or guest star on Mad Men. (T-Swift won her first Emmy ever at the 2015 Creative Arts Emmy Awards for her AMEX Unstaged: Taylor Swift Experience project.)
3. So long, New York Fashion Week…: They came, they saw, they wore ridiculous accessories to capture Bill Cunningham’s attention. While the fashion of attendees of NYFW bordered on the clinically insane, the fashions put out by the designers for their spring/summer collections had us longing for warmer weather already. Some of our personal favorites? Proenza Schouler, Marchesa and Delpozo.
4. …’ello, London Fashion Week: But don’t worry too much—your Instagram feed will still be on fashion week overload. Editors, buyers and fashion darlings alike are just transporting across the pond to London as LFW kicks off today. Sure we are anxious for the fresh collections from favorites like Christopher Kane and Burberry, but we are perhaps (and by that, we mean “definitely are”) more excited to see what Emma Watson wears to the shows. (Team Hermione for life.)
5. So much Mindy is never enough Mindy: The new season of The Mindy Project dropped on Hulu this week. Even better? Mindy also released her second book, “Why not me?” the same day. Coincidence? Good PR? Whatever the reason, I have already devoured episode one and half of the book. The book is full of gems—like the mortifying process of getting a spray tan and why being a bridesmaid is the worst/best thing. So in case you were wondering what my weekend plans were, I’ll be hanging with my aspirational-BFF….
