STYLE GURU STYLE: Western Chic

Fashion from the ’90s is back and bigger than ever. Although we seem to be moving away from the grunge side of decade, a current ’90s-inspired trend are chokers and silk slip dresses. Both trends from the 1990s were seen on some of the greatest fashion icons, and I’m loving it.

Alexander Wang, creative director of Balenciaga, took the silk trend to the next level and he did not disappoint. The Balenciaga spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection was very reminiscent of my childhood in the ’90s. Every piece in the collection was centered on an off white silk piece, which reminded me of the feminine silk slips that my mother would wear to bed. I’m so excited to rummage through my mom’s old wardrobe to incorporate these silk pajamas into my everyday style.

I took this silk top and took inspiration from the festival season to create a festival look. I’ve styled something that I call “Western-chic.” The silk top paired with a velvet choker screams ’90s fashion. To add a twist to the outfit, I decided to include some Western vibes, by wearing a fedora and a Western belt. The fringe ankle boots really helped pull together a Western festival look.

I love playing around with different styles and mixing them together. Combining ’90s fashion with festival trends resulted in one of my favorite outfits that I’ll definitely be rocking over the summer. Translating runway looks can be tricky, but it really helps when you draw inspiration from what’s happening around you.

Get My Look: 1. Any silk top. 2. Choker necklace. 3. A Western belt.
