STYLE GURU STYLE: The Midas Touch

I could not help but be mesmerized by Lanvin’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. Though the clothes are very simple in shape and neutral in coloration, they stand as a flawless backdrop for some quite elaborate gold accessories; some have an Ancient Egyptian/exotic flare to them, while others are more modern. The pieces vary in shape, size, and length, but all add the necessary finishing touch to each ensemble. Seeing this collection could not have come at a more perfect time. It seems as if every winter, my style turns very minimalistic (all hail the oversized sweater/leggings combo), and I was on the hunt for a way to make my winter basics a bit more lively. One solution, I discovered, is to make like Lanvin and add a little sparkle and shine.

For this specific outfit, I pieced together a retro, white sweater of my mother’s with mint colored corduroy pants from American Eagle Outfitters. These are covered by a navy peacoat by Michael Kors. My gold accents consist of a long, multi-chain necklace from Forever 21, a vintage bangle that belonged to my great-great grandmother and gold flats by GUESS. By using more light and neutral undertones, the gold pieces can really stand out and truly add some flare to an otherwise boring outfit.

To translate Lanvin’s chic looks into your everyday wear, try adding smaller gold pieces such as a necklace, watch, headband, bracelet, or rings. An outfit made up of neutrals is instantly livened with a touch of gold!
