STYLE GURU STYLE: The Boho Goth

I don’t always take style advice from toddlers, but when I do, it’s from Alexander Wang’s niece, Aila. She’s better dressed than most of us are, and it’s okay. You learn to accept it. And when it comes to chic all-black ensembles, she is the poster child (perhaps even literally) for Alexander Wang’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. If you haven’t seen it, click through the slideshow. His looks had my inner goth kid fangirling so hard, I would live every day in those pieces.

What’s great about these looks is how he flawlessly blends what might be considered goth pieces (all-black, studded, leather—you do the math) and gives them a boho vibe with the silver accents. If I didn’t make it clear the first time, I want every piece from this collection (unfortunately, FAFSA won’t cover these “educational” investments).

How I translated this fall collection for summer was by keeping it breezy with a short black trapeze dress, cinched together with a black leather belt and decorated with boho silver accents. I chose a pony hair monk strap boot, and a silver coin necklace for my statement piece. The more silver detail the better, and extra points for studded pieces. And since summer weather in Tallahassee is uncomfortably hot (putting it as nicely as possible) I had to forgo the leather detail that Wang used heavily in the show. Add more leather to the look via a black leather bucket bag, preferably studded.

Get My Look: 1. Black trapeze dress. 2. Monk strap boots. 3. Silver coin necklace.
