STYLE GURU STYLE: That Red Lip, Classic Thing That You Like

What do Marilyn Monroe, Taylor Swift, Elizabeth Taylor, Madonna and Dita Von Teese all have in common? Not only are they all fashion icons, but these women have taught us how to wear red lipstick. The red lip remains a classic. It makes a bold statement and automatically takes an outfit to another level. While trying other lip colors is fun and trendy, a red lip will always be my favorite! It’s amazing how a little tube of color can create such confidence.

I took inspiration from the Nina Ricci spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection to complete a look where a red lip really stands out. This show, by including black and white printed pieces and models walking down the runway with skin nearly bare along with a red lip, inspired me to try this runway trend. According to Vogue, one of the top nine beauty trends of the spring 2016 shows was a bold mouth against otherwise bare skin.  No, it’s not quite spring yet, but I chose to jump into the trend by pairing it with a winter ensemble.

I chose to leave my skin almost bare by just wearing bareMinerals bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation while adding red lipstick by Revlon. My outfit includes a black and white printed coat that is as bold as the red lip. I paired the jacket with a simple pair of leggings and a pair of gray loafers. I also adding a vintage Fossil cross-body bag that was actually my moms in the ’90s!

I truly believe that the red lip will forever be a classic. With this red lip, I sported a boldly printed jacket and then toned it back down with a simple pair of leggings and a neutral shoe. This outfit is so comfortable and can be worn any day of the week; it can easily be taken from day to night by adding a heel or wedge. When wearing this outfit, just be ready to stand out and make a statement!
