Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean you always have you look like you’re about to hit the beach or go out for a fun summer night. This week’s look is inspired by Honor’s 2015 resort collection. Designer Giovanna Randall draws her inspiration from “an idea of a fragile beauty trapped beneath glass.” This collection includes ladylike, soft shapes and delicate fabrics such as lace and organza. Despite pops of color in the collection, the pieces are mostly neutral colored, which just so happened to be my favorite colors to wear.
To begin, I’m wearing a breezy, flowy and sheer top in cream and black. This type of top is perfect for summer if you want to wear long sleeves. You can wear a neutral tank top underneath, and throwing on one of these lightweight button-downs hardly makes you feel as though you’re wearing anything else. The material doesn’t leave you sticky or stifling, and it’s such a nice change from the usual summer crop top, tank top or T-shirt. My top ties with a ribbon at the top, as do many of the tops from the Honor collection. See look 13 (which my look most resembles), look 42 and look 24.
Sticking to neutrals, I’ve tucked my top into a pair of plain black shorts. A pair of well-fitting black shorts is flattering on almost anyone. They retain an aspect of professionalism and seriousness, but they are honestly just as comfortable as jean shorts. My shoes are strappy black sandals that are also neutral. They dress the outfit down a little bit so the ensemble can be worn in casual situations without looking too dressy or serious.
To accessorize, I added a white pearl necklace, an owl ring and a pair of snazzy, round eyeglasses. I thought the eyeglasses add a little bit of fun to the outfit and, to some extent, mock the serious nature of the pearls and neutrals. It was also a play on Randall’s inspiration of “beauty trapped beneath glass.”
