Fashion and comfort. Two words that most people assume could never be associated. But after taking a look at the spring 2014 shows, it’s clear that comfort has found its place in the fashion world. I was so excited to see athletic wear all over the spring runway, from glamorized track jackets to luxe joggers. In Emilio Pucci’s spring 2014 ready-to-wear show, he combined an urban feel with athletic inspiration to create a hip and edgy collection. I was drawn to a particular look that combined black leather mesh shorts with an embellished zip-up jacket and black heels. I loved the unexpected combination of casual and dressy and how translatable the look was to a daytime outfit.
Now, I know in my STYLE GURU BIO I talked about wanting to get away from my addiction to black, but I just can’t say no to these awesome leather shorts. They reminded me of Pucci’s mesh leather shorts, and I was inspired to create an urban and sporty everyday look. Many designers utilized mesh this spring to amp up athletic wear and so I paired my shorts with an olive green mesh tank top. This fabric is perfect for looking and staying cool in the summer heat. To keep the top from being too risqué I put on a lace bralette underneath.
I wanted to replicate the cool contrast in Pucci’s outfit so I added black caged Jeffrey Campbell heels. These may not seem to fit the comfort theme, but I swear I can wear these heels forever. Short chunky heels are great for walking in the summer because they are fashionable and better for your feet than your usual flip flops. To finalize my look I threw on a spiked silver necklace and a slouchy black purse to add an urban edge.
This outfit is perfect for running around the city during the day, and can be easily be converted to a nighttime look by adding some makeup and an edgy jacket.
