STYLE GURU STYLE: Sailor Stripes

Matching two-piece sets have officially made their come back, and we’re loving it. From powerhouse suits to bold prints, this mix and match trend can be easily personalized and tailored to your everyday routine. Whether you’re going for a casual day-to-day look or a smoldering evening ensemble, use this as your alternative to your favorite flirty dress, and you’ll be sure to make your coordinate set look more than just a thing of the ’90s.

Inspired by both Louis Vuitton’s resort 2015 and the J.W. Anderson spring ready-to-wear 2015 fashion shows, I wanted to re-create a set that could be worn from day to night in both spring and summer while still maintaining that French Riviera glow throughout. In the J.W. Anderson show, the designer played out a nautical theme through his sets of sculpted tops and matching skirts, which were slung with hemp rope. In the Louis Vuitton show, the designer used bold prints in his matching sets that made us envision sailing in the French Riviera.

I pulled both of these ideas together in my look with my matching striped boxy cropped T-shirt and shorts set from Zara. To keep the color-blocked matching set the focal point of my look, I kept the rest of the ensemble pretty simple with my favorite statement necklace, my gold Michael Kors watch and my black Superga sneakers. To me this ensemble reads comfort and ease, perfect for staying true to that spring and summer feel. I love that I can take this look from class to my internship by throwing on a solid colored blazer. I can even wear it on a night out with my girls with a killer pair of neutral toned wedges.

Get My Look: 1. Top. 2. Matching shorts. 3. Sneakers. 4. Statement necklace. 5. Watch.
