STYLE GURU STYLE: Off the Runway Athleisure

As New York Fashion Week has come to a close, there are so many new trends that have been catching on lately. Something that I was immediately drawn to was the athleisure fad that popped up all over the runway. From Alexander Wang’s adidas collaboration to Rihanna’s Fenty collection, the athleisure trend is definitely one to stay.

I wanted to follow a mix of these two collections in my look that I put together. However, I still felt these were hard to work on a campus setting so I tried to make it more of an actual ready to wear style. This style is perfect for the days where you just want to be comfortable, yet you still wanna look confident and as though you actually tried. The number one thing I find important about the athleisure trend is wearing monochromatic colors. This makes the whole look a bit more chic and upscale. Also finding pieces of clothing that have a bit of texture and interest help to tie together the look.

To start off my outfit you obviously have to rock some sneakers. I went with a modern black pair by adidas that strayed away from the typical adidas sneaker you see floating around everywhere. I went with these so that I could keep everything all black. I wore a pair of Nike leggings to keep me comfortable throughout the day. For the top, I threw on a pleated tank top from Urban Outfitters to add some texture and also a black motorcycle jacket to keep me warm. To add a bit of extra spice and flair, I added some accessories. I chose a suede black choker and a baseball cap to finish off the whole look.

This trend is something that is totally wearable for the transition into winter. I think it is perfect for a campus setting so do not be afraid to jump in and try it. Do not worry, people will not think you look lazy! You will be just super chill and comfortable so go ahead and give it a shot.

Hello Fashionistas! My name is Abigail Shatrau. I am currently a junior at SUNY Oneonta. I am majoring in Fashion Merchandising, currently enrolled in the 3 in 1 program with F.I.T. This means that I spend 3 rad years at SUNY Oneonta and then finish out my school at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I am 20 years old and I am from the small city of Oswego, New York. I have a twin brother and an older sister that I continue to look up to and strive to be like. Besides my passion for fashion I am extremely intrigued by nutrition and health. I love being outdoors, going on walks, running, and overall just being active. I recently transitioned into a vegan lifestyle and that has been quite a big step and change in my life. I am loving everything about it so far and wouldn't change back for anything. Growing up in a small town can make it hard to figure out the full extent to which fashion expression can be reached. However, ever since I was little I loved to do everything artsy, crafty, and creative. I am not one to think up many original ideas of my own, but what I love about my major is that it can be all about the detail work, like the little things that matter, and its about collaborating with people, blossoming ideas through one another. To me that is so important because art, creativity, and everything fashion should be shared. We are all unique individuals that have unique ways of thinking and expressing ourselves. Just like College Fashionista, spreading ideas is what makes life more interesting and it brings us closer with people who love those same things as well. I hope that I do not let any of you down in my journey as a College Fashionista, I wish you all the best! Bisous, Abigail Shatrau
