STYLE GURU STYLE: Made In The Suede

In Florida, we enjoy year-round summer weather. The only way to tell that fall is approaching is when the Starbucks on campus starts selling pumpkin spiced lattes. That means scorching fall heat and very limited wardrobe options. When Florida Fashionistas and Fashionistos want to dress up, they still have to be cool and comfortable.

For me, this is a perfect look to wear in the hot sun. A suede skirt is a great summer transitional item. It is heavier than a traditional skirt and gives a nice autumnal feel.

When you think of suede, you probably think of a couch or a big, comfortable chair. However, suede is a very popular material for skirts this season. By incorporating suede into an outfit, you are adding a darker vibe to your look. However, a suede skirt can easily transition into a summertime staple if you pair it with a light crop top and Converse. In order to beat the heat, add a pair of statement shades to the look. They protect your eyes and also add a nice pop to the outfit.

I found this suede skirt at a thrift store over the summer and waited until September to start wearing it. The material gives off a very autumnal vibe, and when it gets colder I’ll pair it with a sweater and boots.

In Florida, we have to get creative about incorporating fall and winter trends into our wardrobes, and this is a great example of how to make a fall trend warm weather friendly.
