STYLE GURU STYLE: Got Low

I used to pick endless fun at my mom for her choices in pant attire. Little did I know, similar versions would become a huge hit on runway shows like Malene Birger’s about five years later. These pants are of the hippie, “hang loose” (literally) category. To put it bluntly, they are worn at the hips, but whereas your everyday jeans and khakis hug your body tightly, the fabric of these at the crotch droops further down to the point where their official nickname became: mom’s toilet accident pants. Ironically, the style of pants I’d swore to never wear has officially found a very special place in my heart, and definitely on my hips.

I have seen a multitude of versions of these pants across all sorts of platforms, from Instagram bloggers and public figures to the Malene Birger Copenhagen Spring 2017 Runway Show as seen on Vogue. Needless to say, I was shocked and confused that my mom’s horrendous fashion choice was becoming all the rage.
Shopping in Morocco a few weeks back, I stumbled upon their black denim doppelgänger. These pants were striking to me because they managed to incorporate the low cut of this new trend, while sticking to black timeless denim. Despite my initial spite, I tried them on and they soon became an essential part of my summer style, where I could wear them to deliver both casualness and added spunk. This outfit was a casual one, where I complimented the pants with a simple black tube top, a black choker, adidas Stan Smith sneakers, a low ponytail and a romantic smokey eye in rose gold tones. Ultimately I’ve realized to never be too quick to laugh at a particular item of clothing, seeing as it could  very well become your go to item in the future.
