STYLE GURU STYLE: Falling for Florals

As a September baby and someone who loves just chilly weather, fall has undoubtedly been my favorite season. Besides the comfort food and the anticipation of the holidays, I love fall for its versatility. In Kentucky, the fall season feels a lot like the cool side of your pillow—it’s just cool and breezy enough to relieve you from the humid summer heat, yet not as cold as our snowy winters.  It’s enjoyable to be outdoors without having to dress for extreme weather which, for me, is great. Nothing can kill my style vibe more than having to layer up in a less than fashionable snowman ensemble or having to forego my favorite pieces in favor of practicality on a sweltering day.

With the weather on my side, I use fall as a period of mixing and matching seasons. Whether it be pairing a summer tank with a pair of long jeans, wearing a short skirt and thigh-high boots or mixing seasonal colors and patterns, I try to make the most of my wardrobe. I always feel a sense of reluctance to fully let go of my summer clothes until next season as if they are my good friends I won’t see for a while. And on the same note, I’m eager to be reunited with my cozy winter wardrobe. However, I know that the winter is long and I don’t want to wear out all my favorite pieces quite so quick. Mixing and matching pieces and designs from both seasons makes fall my perfect happy medium.

I was head over heels when I found this floral and flirty dress at Bluetique, one of my go-to campus style hot spots. This look combined my love for feminine and elegant floral patterns (usually akin to summer) with the darker more earthy tones of winter. The long sleeves give it a fall feel while the short length keeps you cool. With the busy floral pattern and unique boho fit and flare cut, I kept the accessories simple, pairing the dress with black chandelier earrings and taupe platform heels. You could even pair the look with some booties, thigh-highs tights a scarf or floppy suede hat as we dive deeper into the fall season. Dresses like this make putting together the perfect fall look together a breeze, no pun intended (Ok, maybe cheesy pun intended).
