STYLE GURU STYLE: Double Denim

The ultimate go-to fabric when you think of casual is always denim. Although it creates a relaxed look you can add pieces to turn a denim shirt into a stylish outfit. This trend of double denim is not just on the streets but appearing all over the runways such as Gucci. When I think of Gucci, an image of bold handbag straps and vintage printed scarves comes to mind. In the spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, designer Frida Giannini brought to the runway a mixture of old and new while staying true to the vintage look found in many past collections.

What makes the brand Gucci different from simply finding clothes at a vintage or thrift store is the quality of each piece. However, while it would be amazing to have the luxury of purchasing designer items, the budget of a college student limits me to mimic this look through thrifted items. For my outfit, I drew inspiration specifically from looks 29 and 11 out of the collection.

Since many of the pieces in the Gucci collection are vintage-inspired, I started my look off with a thrifted oversized denim shirt. When wearing button-down shirts, I prefer to go for a more relaxed fit to keep from feeling too constricted during my day. To balance out the loose fitting top, I wore a pair of ripped jeans. When pairing two denim items together I like to always make one shade darker than the other. I made sure that my jeans were a dark wash denim so my outfit didn’t look too washed out. To finish off my look, I added a statement necklace and black booties with matching silver accents.

Get My Look: 1. An oversized denim shirt. 2. Ripped jeans. 3. Statement necklace. 4. Black booties.
