STYLE GURU STYLE: Channeling Ralph Lauren

My everyday style is more on the preppy side, so it more often than not consists of a collared shirt and sweater in the fall. Last winter, I decided that I would start wearing turtlenecks again to change up my outfits. Then, as I was helping my mom clean out her closet, she gave me a couple of her old blazers which included my favourite Ralph Lauren one.

Ralph Lauren’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection paired turtlenecks with blazers. I decided immediately that this would be my new fall look.

On the runway, Ralph Lauren keeps the outfits pretty monochromatic. When replicating the runway looks, I decided to keep my sweater and jacket in a similar color palette but make the look more class-friendly by pairing it with jeans and riding boots. The equestrian-inspired boots never fail to be in sync with fall fashion. As always, I added a tote that makes carrying the essentials easy. In addition, I added a small statement necklace that gives the look an extra layer.

The one fashion rule I live by everyday is the rule of three. Count your shirt as one, your pants as two and add a third. The third can be anything from a statement necklace, to a scarf or a blazer. This outfit is the perfect opportunity to test out this fashion rule for yourself. If you’re like me and plan to take the blazer off at some point in the day, simply add the necklace to keep the ensemble balanced.
