STYLE GURU STYLE: Bring On The Blues

Blue, particularly navy, is my absolute favorite color to wear. It’s nice and dark during the winter months, but now I’m ready to lighten up my wardrobe. After checking out several runway shows, I was inspired by the Chloé spring 2015 ready-to-wear show. I loved the navy pieces paired with bright white. This made me want to create my own look.

Right away, I knew I would wear my navy high-low skirt and base the rest of the outfit around it. The material is super light and flowy, making it the perfect skirt for spring. In order to create a look full of contrast, I wanted a bright white shirt. I chose a lace one to add more detail, and it seemed fit for the season. To add more blue and white into my ensemble, I added a printed lightweight scarf. Scarves are not just for winter! Bright colors in sheer and thin materials are great accessories and add more pizzazz to your outfit. This scarf was a birthday present, and I just know I’ll be wearing it all season long.

One aspect of this fashion show that I enjoyed was the minimal accessories. Sometimes, accessories can enhance your look, but sometimes the outfit can do all the talking. With the addition of my scarf, I wanted to keep everything else to a minimum. The weather may permit sandals, but I went with a trusty pair of white Sperry Top-Siders. Their bright white color tied in perfectly with my top. A simple red bracelet added a small pop of color to the look. I also wore a navy blue bow headband to keep the outfit fun and feminine.

Almost everything in my closet is blue or white, or both. The greatest thing about this is that I will be able to swap out different pieces to create new outfits all season long. I just love how well the dark navy pairs with bright white. There’s no doubt in my mind that I will wear these colors a lot this spring, and I bet I will see other Fashionistas and Fashionistos doing the same as I walk around campus.

Get My Look: 1. A navy blue skirt. 2. A bright white shirt. 3. Boat shoes.
