STYLE GURU STYLE: Blaze Phase

As long as I can remember, I’ve been really into the blazer look. Blazers can be worn in so many ways. Whether thrown over a casual pair of jeans and booties or paired with a tailored pant, a nice blazer can work for any occasion. They are the easiest way to make your look both professional and sophisticated.

The fall ready-to-wear collection by Gucci was one that I wasn’t all that excited about. But what made me take a second look were the looks that featured tailored pieces. Using muted, natural colors, the blazers were almost ’70s-inspired. I really enjoyed the cuts of these blazers. Many were slim fitting, as they hit mid-thigh and cinched at the waist. They also featured three quarter sleeves, another retro throwback.

In my look I take full inspiration from the past Gucci show. I raided my mom’s closet and found this herringbone printed tan blazer from her days on Wall Street. I am wearing it with high-waisted black pleated trousers and a textured black turtleneck crop top. Suede booties and bouncy curls top off the look for a sophisticated and modern take on ’70s era work attire.

The fall 2015 show inspired me to bring back the blazers! But this time, bring them back in unconventional ways. I’m constantly looking for interesting new ways to make a blazer work in an outfit. They are really never going out of style, so keep experimenting!

Get My Look: 1. A retro blazer. 2. Black tailored pants. 3. A turtleneck for layering.
