STYLE GURU STYLE: A Higher Love

Marc Jacobs is just one of the many designers to feature sky-high shoes in the recent collections that have hit the runways. His shoe of choice at the fall 2016 ready-to-wear show? Six-inch leather platforms, each pair uniquely translated into every look that stomped down the runway.

Unless you’re a supermodel, it’s not likely that you’ll be reaching for such heights in the shoe department, but that doesn’t mean you can’t opt for a similar look with all of the style and half the height (and discomfort). Plus, don’t be intimidated by the name–platforms can just be a few inches tall, like the ones I picked for this look.

The cool thing about platforms is that they can be worn with pretty much anything; shorts, jeans, skirts or dresses. I made this look my own, opting for comfort and simplicity, by choosing a lightweight pocket dress with an earth-toned duster, mimicking the layered look that was so prominent on the Marc Jacobs runway. I doubled up on earth tones and accessorized using an ammonite necklace paired with a second necklace made from the bomb debris in Laos during the Vietnam War.

The platforms tie this look together by adding height to an outfit that would otherwise have a rather shortening effect on someone of my stature, while streamlining the height differences in my fabrics to make for an intentionally length-varied look. Shoes like this will pump up the appeal of any outfit and are sure to give you a boost of confidence as you walk out the door.

Get My Look: 1. Platforms. 2. Pocket dress. 3. Duster coat.
