STYLE GURU BIO: Sydney Patterson

Hello Style Gurus, I’m back here at CollegeFashionista for my second semester. I couldn’t be more excited to show you what I project are the hottest pieces for fall here in Southern California. I’m going into my third year at the University of California Santa Barbara, and I’m living it up in our endless summer while pretending that 60 degrees is an excuse to wear your new oversized knit sweater. Right now, I am studying communications and aspire to go into journalism with emphasis on entertainment news.

Growing up in both Los Angeles and Washington D.C., my style has become very dynamic, while always keeping to my roots in the city and the beach. My day-to-day look typically ranges from laid back boyfriend jeans and a cut-off T-shirt, to my edgier black leather pants, studded belt and booties.

In this outfit, I tried to play on the transition to chilly fall nights, while still keeping it cool with an edgy take on the plunging necklines and the cross-over collar trend that we’ve seen in the past two seasons. This piece allows you mobility and is very flattering for the figure, yet still embracing colder styles that thrive in other parts of the country. The next step is admitting to yourself that it’s really not that cold here, so throw on some simple shorts that won’t deter the eye from the complexity in the top. I layered a bralette underneath and my personal favorite staple, a body chain in order to add even more depth with my personal style. Of course, it would not be my staple outfit if I wasn’t wearing my Lucky Brand brown booties.

I can’t wait to see what inspiration this team will bring this semester, and I am stoked to be contributing my perspective from the places I call home.
