STYLE GURU BIO: Sidney Lora

I repeated to myself “a budget.” Such a helpful and hindering tool in any aspiring fashion innovator’s journey to success. It creates space to be so much more original. Ever since the age of eight, the craft of reinventing my older siblings’ hand-me-downs opened a portal of endless creativity that developed my young mind to explore the world of fashion. I’m Sidney Lora, and was born in 1996 and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Being the youngest in my household, has given me the guidance I needed to manifest my unapologetic individuality to be bold and confident in my own skin. My Style Guru creativity portal and ambition flourished as I attend the New York City College of Technology for fashion marketing and merchandising.

I predominantly enjoy opportunities that allow me to display trendy styles by dressing classmates, peers and family members. I exhibit my reinvented outfits through social media platforms, Instagram being my primary outlet. With Anna Wintour as a inspiration and dreams to become a fashion pioneer, I quickly started branding myself through directing, styling and modeling in fashion shows and photoshoots.

In pursuit of broadening my experience in the industry, I have obtained various retail positions. I Interned for spring/summer and fall/winter 2015 New York City fashion week, while obtaining an operations position at Ralph Lauren. Intrigued by the thought process that attracts consumers to shop I realized I wanted to incorporate my creativity beyond operations. My fascination with visual marketing and its effective results steered me to obtaining a visual merchandising and mannequin displaying position for All Saints Clothing. CollegeFashionista then granted me the opportunity to display my produced and directed images, simultaneously enhancing my descriptive and critical writing abilities. If you know a New Yorker then you must know that wearing all black is second nature to the city. I  intensified my distressed black denim jacket, with additional cuts and accompanied it with a velvet mini skirt and suede lace up ankle boot to complete my contemporary street prep look. I do not limit myself to having a specific style, I wear and create outfits I know are unique and will make a fashion forward statement.
