STYLE GURU BIO: Sarah Waite

Greetings my fellow Fashionistas/os! I am beyond thrilled to be writing for CollegeFashionista this semester. My name is Sarah Waite, and I am a sophomore fashion design and journalism double major at Kent State University. I chose Kent State not only because it is one of the top design schools in America, but also because it combines the small town charm with the opportunities to experience city life and travel abroad.

For as long as I can remember, I have had a deep love affair with fashion and writing. When I was six years old, I would sit underneath the magnolia tree in my backyard drawing dresses and writing short stories. The older I got, the stronger my passion grew for both design and writing. When I was in third grade, I started to sew, and 12 years later, I have sewn dozens of outfits ranging from coats, pants, prom dresses, blouses and more. My love of writing also grew with me, and I since have had the opportunity to write for Her Campus and now CollegeFashionista.

As I progress through my college experience, I am constantly flipping through the glossy pages of any and every magazine I can get my hands on. That is, when I’m not pinning, cutting and sewing yards of fabric into my latest design.

My personal style is Alexander McQueen meets Marchesa. I am a tremendous proponent of all clothing and accessories with leather, lace, studs, the colors black and pink and high heels. I prefer to mix classic pieces with trendy touches. I am not one to typically follow fads, after all, “Fashions fades, style is eternal.” However, I do like to incorporate some of the latest trends in a minimalist manner. For this piece, I chose to pair one of my favorite sweaters from Ann Taylor as a layering item beneath my black faux fur vest. To pair with my layered look, I chose a skirt that I made, a cotton plaid and faux leather mini skirt. In addition, I polished off the look with my black heel boots and a Betsey Johnson necklace.

I hope all of you, my fellow fashion enthusiasts, enjoy reading my articles each month. I can’t wait to share all that is to come this semester. Lots of love to you all.
