STYLE GURU BIO: Morgan Brownell

My name is Morgan Brownell and I am a sophomore at the University of Delaware. I am currently an art foundations student with a minor in interactive media. In two years, I will be able to declare my visual communications major, and eventually become a designer for some company in some city on the East Coast. I hope to work for a magazine out of college; I would like to be able to combine my photography skills and my not-so-secret love for Javascript to land one of the many dream jobs that I long for.

Art has been a part of my life since I was little. When I was not writing and illustrating my own books, I was taking pictures of my stuffed animals with my parents’ disposable cameras. Though the sports world took the attention away from my creative side throughout my adolescence, I found it again when an injury ended my high school field hockey career. I found a new passion in my DSLR camera, which has been by my side ever since.

I discovered my fashion sense when I got to college. Walking to class everyday made me realize that comfort really is the most important factor when figuring out what to wear. I would say my style has evolved into a nice balance of simplicity and energy. While I usually grab a pair of plain boyfriend-fit jeans, I like to add staple accessories like scarves and chunky necklaces. My checkered Converse add a unique touch to the monotony that can become everyday college wear.

My formal training for fashion writing and photography started this past semester, when I joined my school’s fashion magazine as an online writer and photographer. This experience has introduced me to the world of published writing, which is slowly becoming another love of mine. I am fortunate enough to have found a couple passions in my life already and I cannot wait to explore them this semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista.
