STYLE GURU BIO: Makenzie Corbett

Let’s think of this as a date. When you really start to compare them, they are pretty similar; I’m getting dressed up all nice in an attempt to make a good first impression on you, I’ve planned the outfit at least 72 hours in advance to the date and scouted out the perfect location. I suppose this is much more one-sided, but that’s okay, c’est la vie. So hello and welcome to our five month long date. I’m Makenzie by the way.

Now comes the obligatory small talk; I’m a Boston native currently attending the University of Delaware for fashion merchandising. I also play rugby for the school. Fashion has been in my blood for as long as I can remember and my city is my biggest style inspiration. Some of my friends refer to me as the “punk friend”, which I might not always agree with, but I will admit I do dress much more heavily on the “punk spectrum.” It’s pretty obvious with the way I dress: the majority of my shoe wardrobe is composed of Vans, Converse or Dr. Martens; about 75 percent of my clothes are black and you’ll always spot me with a jean or leather jacket on. All of that is pretty evident from what I’ve put together for our first date.

I’m a tall chick, one measly inch away from being six feet, so with the majority of my body being all legs, I like showing them off; that’s why I paired this pleated mini skirt with a cool graphic T-shirt to bring a bit of street vibes into play. If you’re anything like me, you’re in denial that summer is actually ending and are clinging on for dear life. Throwing on my best friend’s mom’s old denim jacket from the 80’s (not sure how that ended up in my closet) is perfect for adapting to the changing temperatures. Of course, I can’t step out of the house without a pair of trusty, comfy sneakers (Vans are my one true love). Throw on a few simple pendant necklaces and my favorite all—black, tentacle earrings are a must.

I’m beyond thrilled to be writing for CollegeFashionista this semester and am excited to be sharing the amazing fashion I see on the beautiful UD campus. Keep checking back for updated content and hopefully I’ll see you on date number two.
