STYLE GURU BIO: Katherine Henao

Hello, fashion enthusiasts. My name is Katherine Henao and this is my third time around as a Style Guru. I am a junior at Bryant University and originally began college as an undeclared student, hoping to find a major that would please my passion for fashion and business. I am now majoring in business administration with a concentration in global supply chain management and a double minor in Spanish and marketing. In the future, I plan to become a buyer for a fashion company.

Before attending college, I had believed that the only thing to do in the fashion world was either be a stylist or a fashion designer. When it came time to choose which college I wanted to attend, I chose Bryant University, which happens to be primarily a business school. After beginning my first semester at Bryant, I discovered there was much more to the fashion industry than just designers and stylists—I still had a chance at doing something I loved. I knew I had a calling for fashion and I was not going to let my dream die.

Ever since I was a little girl, I was attracted to the world of fashion. I always made sure my outfit matched and that I had a good amount of accessories on—something I learned from my fabulous mother. Through the years, my love for fashion has only become stronger as I started falling in love with high fashion.

Although I love high fashion, and the designers that come along with it, I also have a love for street style. I like how I can incorporate styles from the runway into outfits I can wear on campus. One of the biggest ways I play up an outfit is by adding a choker or scarf. Not only is it fashionable, but it is also adds a special touch to an outfit you may think is boring. Another piece I’ve been loving lately are denim skirts. A pair of jeans may seem boring, so instead of jeans wear a denim skirt for a casual, put together look. Lastly, you must remember that lipstick can go a long way. Mauve colored lipsticks have been in since last year and continue to be popular. I don’t feel complete without some sort of liquid lipstick on.

The fall semester is guaranteed to bring out the inner Fashionistas and Fashionistos in Rhode Island’s college students. So, I am extremely excited to capture all of those great outfits and share them with you—here’s to a #RAD semester.
