Victoria Beckham has said, “I can’t concentrate in flats!” And neither can I! Hey there, Fashionistas! My name is Gnale Kourouma, pronounced Nelly for anyone having trouble saying it. I am an 18-year-old West African girl born in East Orange, New Jersey, but raised in Michigan. I will be attending Eastern Michigan University this fall as a freshman majoring in Fashion Merchandising. This will be my first year as a Style Guru and I can’t wait to experience all the fun that comes along with being one.

Ever since I was a little girl, I had a passion for fashion. I can still remember the days where I would take everything out of my closet and create my own clothing store in the basement. As I grew older into my teenage years, that passion grew bigger. I would always be the girl that would be “overdressed” for school. People would come up to me and say “OMG how long does it take you to get dressed every morning?” or “Wow, do you always plan your outfits out the night before?” Being a girl obsessed with everything fashion related, I thought it was totally normal to dress your best every day.

By my sophomore year of high school, I started to really get into the modeling world. Participating in fashion shows and doing numerous photo shoots really gave me the courage to show the world my sense of style and also made it possible for me to walk down any hall with a confident look. While modeling, I developed a love for heels. I believe the right heels can boost any girls’ confidence!
