I believe life should be lived on the edge—if you’re not constantly changing, growing, exploring then you’re doing it wrong. I love the quote, “Do the thing that scares you the most.” In fashion, just like in life, I am constantly challenging myself to push new boundaries and be creative with what I wear. Ever since my middle school days, I’ve loved to play with different looks and follow trends.
My style is versatile: it changes day-to-day based on what inspires me in that moment. When in doubt, I usually go for a refined look. My style has both edgy and boho influences (à la Vanessa Hudgens). My go-to pieces include black skinny jeans, bootie heels, my Ray-Ban aviators and, of course, my signature burgundy lipstick. I pride myself on finding unique pieces from thrift and vintage stores. I recently found this oversized jean jacket from a vintage store and haven’t been able to take it off since.
No look would be complete without fun and funky accessories. My favorite way to edge up an outfit is by layering simple gold necklaces of varying lengths for simple and understated vibe. Second only to necklaces, rings are my favorite jewelry to accessorize with. I love them because they can be simple and plain or gaudy and outlandish. Whether I go for statement rings or necklaces, I never leave the house without a little something extra!
Clothing has always been my outward form of expression, a way to show the world a little bit of who I am. So who am I? I’m currently a first year studying International Development with a minor in Italian at UCLA. I work as a hostess and I intern for a PR firm. I recently launched a personal style and lifestyle blog, As Told By Flo. This summer I’m thrilled to have the chance to write for the WHAT TO WEAR column. As a native to the Midwest, moving to Los Angeles was definitely a big change, but it has proven to be worth it. My favorite part about living here is the chance to get away on the weekends to explore different parts of the city. Because of the spread-out nature of LA, every neighborhood has its own unique vibe, and personal style is certainly no exception. Follow me as I discover the best dressed Fashionistas on my campus as well as out and about in Cleveland, Ohio where I’ll be spending the majority of the summer.
