STYLE GURU BIO: Anna Jonas

Hey there Fashionistas/os! My name is Anna Jonas and I am beyond ecstatic to be a Style Guru for Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia! A soon to be fourth year student, I am majoring with honors in Sociology, minoring in Management and completing a certificate in intercultural communications.
I have long had an obsession with fashion. From a young age, I was drawing T-shirt designs in my notebooks, cutting images out of magazines and pasting them onto poster board. While I’ve retired my glue stick, my love of fashion hasn’t waned. In fact, it has only grown as I’ve has the incredible opportunity to write about it as a contributing writer for Her Campus. I also write for UChic, CanCulture and the College Tourist and am an Intern Queen Campus Ambassador.
I would describe my style as incredibly girly, be it that I’m infatuated with all things related to lace and glitter. I am also the most preppy person you will ever meet. I love the look of classic touches, like pearls, oxford shirts and plaid. I’m a strong believer that it is better to be overdressed than underdressed, and I usually am. I think skirts are more comfortable than jeans and that dressing up is one of the best parts of the party.
I take inspiration from my travels, fashion blogs such as Classy Girls Wear Pearls and Pinterest (I’m addicted, it’s a problem). I also read magazines like it’s my day job and aspire to work for one in the future.
My extracurricular activities have definitely influenced the way I dress. I am a competitive horseback rider, dancer and was a competitive rower. Riding and crew have added to the preppy side of my style with blazers and leather riding boots, while my time in the ballet studio has only increased my adoration of tulle and pastel pink.
I’ve spent the last five months studying abroad in Dublin, Ireland and Europe has had a major impact on my style, inspiring a passion for ankle boots and wool coats. My friends from my exchange hail from various countries around the world and continue to inspire me with new ways to switch up my look.
The great thing about style is that it lets you be anyone you want to be. It’s defined by what you make it. Style is about expressing yourself and fashion is the perfect medium for speaking your mind. It should be fun and you shouldn’t be afraid to take risks.
I am super excited to be part of CollegeFashionista and I can’t wait to combine my love of fashion, interest in photography and passion for writing and to share amazing street style with all of you!
