STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Thrift Your Heart Out

It’s no question old-school trends are having a serious comeback—think funky fabrics, high-waisted anything and retro accessories. These different styles can be found pretty much anywhere you shop, but the best place to snag these trends and get them for less? Your local thrift store.

While it is easier to click “add to cart” and call it a day while online shopping, snagging a one-of-a-kind piece with some added history makes the experience all the more fun and the clothing a lot more meaningful.

Some of us are gifted with an eye for thrifting, like this Fashionista who is rocking an entirely thrifted look. Others are like me, wandering doe-eyed and frustrated as we scan up and down the isles of consignment stores. This Fashionista helps me believe that there are great finds out there for everyone, but her advice for a successful experience? Don’t go into the store looking for anything in particular, let the clothes find you.

This Fashionista really pulled at my heartstrings when she donned her camel colored suede jacket. Suede has become a staple in the closets of many this year, but this variation of the trend that she is wearing is by far my favorite. To emulate her look, toss your jacket on top of an oversized button-down and pair it with some high-waisted trousers with a Western-inspired belt. Want to make the look a little dressier? Swap the shirt and pants combo for a little black dress; like this midi with a plunging neckline. The femininity of the deep V will compliment the masculinity of the coat. Either way you decide to style your suede jacket, a pair of sleek booties will top off your look perfectly.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t waste your time following a trend, go make it your own. Is personal style really all that personal if the shirt you are wearing is mass produced across the nation?”
