STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Serene Shades

With spring, we can shed the winter weight of chunky knits and weather proof boots, adopting a lighter aesthetic in our wardrobes. The typically expected move for spring includes loads of bright colors that pop against one another and mirror the blooms in nature. This season, many designers have taken a calmer approach to their ready-to-wear pieces. This soft, sartorial sensibility is a major trend for spring 2015, showing up in flowing shapes and shades of white, tan and other calm hues.

Serenity is an ideal in our world of chaos, especially with recent events at many different coordinates on the map. This wish for peace and calm can be expressed in everyday wear and help to promote that sort of mentality. Designers including Mary-Kate and Ashley of The Row, Lanvin and Dior have adopted this calm connection. This Fashionista expresses this trend very similarly to this look from the latter’s ready-to-wear collection, albeit shorter and a little more minimalistic.

This Fashionista sports a sleeveless, collared white shift dress in a perfectly light fabric for spring. She pairs this with equally serene neutral accessories. Her suede slip-ons are awesomely appropriate for treks across the quad and offer a nice bit of detail with texture in folds and eyelet. These gray loafers are similarly serene, or you can opt for a sand shade slip-on bootie. Her matching wide brim hat adds a nice touch of boho festival fashion, so even though class came in the way of Coachella, you can still rock that notorious Cali-desert style. With a satchel and a smile, you’ll be all ready to follow in the footsteps of this Fashionista with sartorially sweet serenity.
