STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Popping Prints

Shades of gray and monochromatic colors are found on the University of Michigan campus. Coats, hats, scarves, vests and boots adorn students; basically, the more layers the better. Most students seem to dress to match the depressing atmosphere that the winter months bring. How else are students supposed to walk to class in below zero temperatures and through windstorms? However, what fun is it wearing all monotonous colors? This Fashionisto goes against the grain and wears color and print, making him stand out on a campus dressed almost entirely in shades of gray and black.

If his red winter coat is not eye-catching enough, he also wears a bold blue printed button-down. He keeps his look winter appropriate by wearing black jeans and black boots. However, the laces on his boots are the same shade as his royal blue button-down. I’m all for matching, and this Fashionisto does it so effortlessly that it does not look over the top.

The print on this Fashionisto’s shirt is flowers—such an easy way to bring new life to clothing and to this dreaded season. If you like his blue printed button-down, check out this one here. Don’t be afraid to experiment with color and print. Fight back the winter blues with bold colors and interesting patterns.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I would say to dress as warm as possible in this weather. However, basic items (such as jackets, hats, etc.) don’t have to be boring. Try patterns or color to switch things up in the winter.”
