STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: How to Beat the Heat in Style

It’s that time of the year again, Fashionistas. In the morning, the temperature is 50 degrees and by the time you walk out of your 2:00 p.m. class, it feels like it’s 90 degrees. Time and time again, that dilemma has left me wondering what I should wear, and I ask myself how I can still be look good while feeling comfortable and cool.

My style advice for this week is to keep it simple and loose! The last thing you want when you’re hot is clothes sticking to you or being overly tight. Loose fitting clothes will allow your body to breathe and you to be able to walk across campus without worrying if any sweat stains are showing. I know how many times I’ve dressed inappropriately for the weather and then felt uncomfortable throughout the rest of my day. However, keeping it simple doesn’t mean having to give up style. Stick to stylish basics that can be played up or down, and pair with various articles of clothing according to the weather.

While many people are trying to hold onto the last bit of summer, I prefer to look to the fall and start wearing fall colors. This navy blue shirt from H&M is perfect and acts as that transition piece that could be worn throughout all of fall and into winter, but it’s not heavy or tight. The subtle details of the simple tie neckline on the chiffon shirt brings the look together and makes you look a bit more accessorized, even if all you had on was a watch. Pair with denim shorts and cute sandals from places like Forever 21 for a casual look, or khakis and stacked heel sandals for a more sophisticated look.

Keeping your outfit simple will not only save you time if you’re rushing to class, but it will also allow for endless options of bottoms, shoes and accessories to be paired with the outfit. Try it out, and thank me later!
