STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Dark Tones For Dark Days

It is finally starting to look like fall in New England! The leaves are turning, acorns are falling and pumpkins have started to pop up all over the place. Days are getting shorter and darker tones are becoming more and more common. It is still very warm in central Connecticut despite the recent rain and clouds, so Fall fashion has been more focused around color palate than layers. Yet, in just a few weeks, coats and sweaters will be an absolute staple.

A major trend that has emerged this year is the overall, or pinafore, dress. From very simple cuts to elaborate and embellished versions, this trendy dress shape comes in a variety of colors and can interpreted to fit any style. Our Fashionista’s black, strappy overall style skirt is from Urban Outfitters, as are her black stockings. This skirt is so versatile, not only because it is black, but also because it can be worn with a T-shirt on warmer days, or with a sweater in the snow. This Fashionista chose to pair it with a striped, sleeveless turtleneck and black sandals, both from Topshop. Sleeveless turtlenecks have also been on trend lately, and are a great item for layering. The stripes of the top blend well with the straps of the skirt, and of course, who doesn’t love platform black sandals! The burgundy hat provides the perfect pop of autumn color.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “The cloudy weather inspires darker tones. I always like to mimic the weather, so play around with shadowy colors.”
