STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Charitable Clothing

I always think it’s great to see people do what they love, and have a passion for something so much that they create beautiful things and bring their goals to life.  This is exactly what Alex Sulis, along with his brother Nick, have done.

ILUM Clothing is a brand created out of New York City by two brothers.  According to their website, “We pride ourselves in creating clever and original designs. ILUM Clothing is the product of months of designing, creating, and planning and is the culmination of our original ideas. We strive to create products with messages behind them. We believe the youth has a lot to say, and this is our way of saying some of those things.”

Some of their featured products include this baseball cap and T-shirt. This entrepreneur is also adding some personal touches to this look, with his own customized ILUM 14k gold necklace and Nikes.  He pairs this with a jacket from Palace Skateboards.  His overall look stands out because he combines a popular brand like Nike with lesser known brands, including one of his very own.  This is something many other people that follow street style brands such as these are doing.

Accompanying it’s strong message, ILUM is also a charitable organization. Ten percent of all of their proceeds go to raising awareness about sexual abuse and victims of rape or sexual assault.  This company is pushing contemporary issues that have seen an increased awareness within recent years, and it is doing so through fashion.  Lots of brands have made the crossover to supporting social causes while still creating stylish pieces.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “My style advice would be to advocate for people to look for brands that support charitable causes like this one and to branch out to support smaller start-up brands that carry a message as strong as this one.”
