STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Blast from the Past

Every time a new semester rolls around I always get the urge to spend my entire wallet on revamping my wardrobe. There is something satisfying about starting a new semester fresh and having new outfits to show off to your new classmates makes going to class a little bit more enjoyable. However, updating your wardrobe does not necessarily mean that you have to break the bank to do so. In fact, what if I told you that there is a way to update your wardrobe for free? Yeah, I said it—for free. You don’t even need to leave your house. I know, it sounds too good to be true. Allow me to explain.

One of the easiest and most affordable ways to gaining new clothes for the upcoming semester is by raiding your parent’s or a family member’s closet! It is amazing what you can find hiding away when you take the time to look, like this Fashionisto who found an amazing embroidered Chinese-style dress shirt from his uncle’s wardrobe who got it in Canada 13 years ago. What may seem outdated to your parents may be a unique addition to your personal wardrobe. Like the saying goes, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” This Fashionisto gave his traditional style shirt a modern look by layering it over a simple white T-shirt which allows the red embroidery to pop. He also paired the shirt with trousers similar in color creating a monochromatic two piece ensemble. He finished off his ‘traditional meets modern’ look by adding two other accessories—white adidas and some Ray Bans. Perfect additions for the first day of school!

So what are you waiting for? Put that wallet away and hit your parent’s clothes rack before hitting the mall! You never know what you may find. Pair your findings with your favorite wardrobe staples and some stand out accessories. All eyes will be on you this back to school season!
