STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Black and White

Black and white may seem like a no-brainer when it comes to versatility and fashionability, but this season the color scheme is more on trend than ever. While late spring/summer will usher in pastels and more vibrant hues, black and white can easily transition from crisp to warmer temperatures.

The look is timeless, sophisticated and flattering on most everyone. No matter the time of year or occasion, the black and white palette is accessible in a variety of styles, and never fails to be chic. This look was predicted by London Fashion Week’s spring 2015 collections, with models donning black and white ensembles in a variety of textures and fabrics. Designers utilized this stark color contrast as well as material blocking to create a pleasing aesthetic, perfect for a day at work or a classy soiree. As we are now in the throes of spring, it is evident that these designers were more on point with their stylistic choices than ever.

This Fashionista hones in on the black and white trend in her nearly monochromatic outfit. Her outfit illustrates the diversity of this look, in that you can play with varying amounts of black and white. She focuses on the streamlined quality of the darker hue and adds a hint of white detail peeking out of her tall black boots to create opposition. Furthermore, she wears soft, cotton fabrics against a leather bag, which contributes an element of sheen and texture to her subdued ensemble. And while this Fashionista sticks to a predominantly black look with a hint of white, a splash of color can also serve as a creative and eye-catching addition.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “You can never go wrong with the color black. Adding a pop of color just makes the outfit better.”
