STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Band Tees like Mick Jagger

September 7th, 2015 at 2:00am

If you saw me in public, I promise I don’t have a starring problem; I am just taking mental notes of all the fashionable people around me. I believe other people serve as the best fashion inspiration and can help you find new trends you love. The current trend I can’t take my eyes off of is the resurfacing of old band T-shirts.

Whether you find them in the back of your parent’s closet or at your local thrift store, I love the authenticity that band T-shirts can offer to one’s style. They’re the perfect amount of rock ‘n’ roll edginess and the perfect conversation starter in the grocery store checkout line. People typically listen to music to relate to the lyrics and I think wearing your favorite band’s T-shirt can serve the same purpose. You will find yourself meeting so many music lovers when you wear these T-shirts that want to share similar concert stories with you. I love when fashion does the talking and how something as simple as an old T-shirt can catch the attention of your peers.

For this look, this Fashionista is wearing her authentic 1988 world tour ACDC band T-shirt that she found at a little vintage shop in downtown Portland. I love the rich colors that the shirt still possesses even when it is 27 years old. She paired the T-shirt with black leggings for a simple look with a plaid flannel to add a pop of color while flattering her waistline. In my eyes you can never go wrong with a pair of Ray-Ban aviators and I am absolutely obsessing over her green mirrored aviators she paired with this look. I think there is something so enduring about a T-shirt that you could keep in your closet for 20 years and it will never go out of style. Band T-shirts are a lot like a bottle of wine; they just get better with time.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I love band T-shirts because they are unique and I love the artwork behind them. They’re authentic and it’s all about supporting the band and music behind the shirt. I wear them with converse while I run errands or dress them up on the weekends. They’re a cool way to be comfortable.”
