STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Ace Athleisure

Let’s face it. We’re in college. Our life is a mental workout. For Pepperdine students, or “Stepperdine students,” who have to climb a million stairs before arriving at our academic gyms, we’re constantly exercising. It’s only fitting that students want to wear something more laid back. However, I subscribe to the ideology that fashion does not have to suffer at the expense of comfort. Thanks to an ongoing, notorious, American trend known as “athleisure,” college students can be cozily stylish.

This Fashionista aces athleisure fashion with a mint bomber jacket. A vintage number she picked up from a thrift store, the two-toned outerwear is light and airy for those slightly chilly Malibu winters. She picks up on the lighter hue of the jacket by wearing a pinkish tan tank top, a form-fitting option that provides feminine shaping under an oversized jacket. She is also sporting some thick black yoga pants that are the perfect armor for conquering those “Stairway to Heaven” Pepperdine stairs. For that final athletic touch, the Fashionista threw on some Adidas kicks with black detailing that pick up on her black yoga pants.

Even if you do not consider yourself a sporty dresser like me, athleisure can be adapted to anyone’s closet. Pull a Bella Hadid and pair your Adidas yoga pants with delicate high heels. Take a lesson from a fashion blogger’s street style and wear your sneakers with a dress. Comfort is not a one size fits all formula, but what you want to make of it!
