Disney’s Tangled is a classic movie that I believe almost everyone instantly fell in love with once it came out. In the movie, Rapunzel simply wants to leave her tower so she can finally see the floating lanterns that come out every year on her birthday. Who knew that a Disney fairy tale could become a reality? Well, it did, and I got to live Rapunzel’s dream of seeing “the floating lanterns gleam” at the Lantern Festival. And let me tell you, it was absolutely unreal.
Festival season is upon us, and normally when you think of festival season, music festivals are the first thing that comes to mind. But did you know there’s actually a Lantern Festival that travels all around America, letting people live Rapunzel’s dream in real life? I found out about this exciting event on Facebook and once I found out more information, I knew I had to go.
With a group of friends, we went on a little road trip about two hours from where we live to a town in the middle of nowhere in Pennsylvania. The event had food vendors, live music, face painting, and more to participate in before sunset when the lantern launch was to occur.
When it was finally time to launch the lanterns, the sky lit up with glowing lights everywhere. No picture will actually capture the beauty of all of the lanterns floating around everyone. It felt like I stepped into a fairy tale movie! Experiencing this with my best friends was such an astounding opportunity. I highly recommend going to a Lantern Festival if they are ever in your area.
