BEAUTY BAR: Beat the Sun

Everyone knows what’s in during the summer: that healthy, shimmery, sun-tinted glow. However, what people tend to forget while they’re darkening in the sun is their face. The skin on your face is extremely delicate, and too much exposure from the sun can damage skin cells, leading to premature wrinkling, an uneven skin tone and exceptional dryness.

While a dermatologist-recommended facial sun lotion with a high SPF rating is always the right move, how can you still get that sun-kissed glow without producing crowfeet by the age of 25? I’ll let you in on a little secret: makeup.

The Fashionista pictured here is also in on the secret—by combining a shimmery highlighter, blush, and two shades of eyeshadow, she has truly worked the sun into her face. This combination creates a soft glow that really ignites under the sun’s rays! She has paired this look with her hair in a soft, face-framing curl, loose top, Kate Spade bag and a pair of black, lace-up flats that really make a statement!

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: After applying a facial sun lotion with SPF protection, go with your usual primer and foundation, including the primer on your eyelids. For this look, our Fashionista used Minor Sin Eyeshadow Primer Potion by Urban Decay for that extra glow! (During the summer I recommend using a powder-based foundation, as it doesn’t run when you sweat). Follow this up with eyeshadow, such as the Urban Decay Naked Palette 3. This Fashionista used the gold-tone for the base, and then blended a darker-yet-sparkly shade out into the corner of her eyes. The next step is to apply blush and highlighter across your cheeckbones. For the blush, add one extra brush than normal and blend (to give your cheeks that extra POW in color). Now, the big thing about this look is to not be stingy on the highlighter (I recommend purchasing PÃœR’s Afterglow). Run two or three sweeps across your cheeks, one across your chin, nose and two sweeps across your forehead. By doing this, you’ll really shine when the sun hits your face! Just for fun, this redhead beauty also chose to add a red lip to this look! I myself am a huge advocate for lipstick, and love this shade of Chanel Rouge-Allure she chose to wear. While red is a color you can wear during any season, it is especially gorgeous during the summer, as it adds a little bit of fire to any look—rain or shine!
